"The Hollow" by Jessica Verday...
I was really excited for this book. Really. I really was. Super excited, even. I had such high hopes...even though the review I had read before buying the book was not a good one.
As much as I was excited, I was even more so disappointed.
I've never read anything about the Legend of Sleepy Hollow besides the Legend itself. I was really excited that she'd fall in love with the headless horseman or something like that, or maybe there's a serial killer who decapitates his victims and goes by the Horseman. Or something super awesome. Really.
But no, the chick dates a ghost who really has nothing to do with Sleepy Hollow for the half the book.
And she doesn't know that he's a ghost.
I mean, really, how would you not know you were dating a ghost?
Seriously.
She dated the guy for months, I mean really?
I'm sorry, but that really just bothers me. I'd like to say, that if for some strange reason that I was dating a ghost, that I would have figured it out. I don't know. But I did figure it out long before the main character did, and most of the book was spent waiting for her to catch up.
And the whole 'Sleepy Hollow' part of it, didn't even come until within 30 pages of the book.
True, I didn't guess who the Sleepy Hollow characters actually would. Really, That was awesome.
What was even more awesome about this book was the way the author began and ended the book. The first, and the last, sentence were the same.
"It was funny."
That simple sentence made it epic. In the beginning, it held a lot of weight, but we weren't sure what exactly was so funny. But at the end...well, let's say that the connotation was a lot different...
So, that was the first book I read since Christmas, and what I thought about it. Maybe you should go read it, we could converse about your opinion, and how it either agrees or disagrees with mine.
